ANOTHER NEW YEAR

The dust and din of the city,
Was the same as ever,
As I set out for work,
Today morning.
My wife saw me off,
At the gate.
My daughter was still sleeping,
After we sat late yesterday,
To solve some maths problems.
She wants to score,
The highest mark,
And stand tall amidst her friends.

This journey of mine,
Is just another race,
Like that of my daughter,
And it will continue,
As money still seems to be important,
And I feel good,
When I receive it,
Every month end.
Soon my daughter may also,
Pursue a job,
Like me for money.
But what then is there in a New Year for me?
Just to call and up and greet,
A few friends and dear ones,
To hang out and party,
And to plan and break,
Some resolutions?

I think it is important,
To dream,
As to what all I can do,
With passion,
While I still exist on this earth.
I believe that I should dream more,
And search within me,
What I am made for,
While I step into the NEW YEAR.
I should compete with just myself.
My daughter will then  follow my steps,
When she sees the joy on my face,
While I passionately pursue my dreams.

LIFE'S SEPARATED DRIVES

Faraway from you in a distant land,
Filled with chilly wind and snow,
Nature’s magic wand,
Seems to make everything, around glow.

The Almighty paints in majestic aura,
This winter painting in snow white grandeur,
Spotted with a myriad of flora,
Leaving every envious artist to revere.

But blind is my mind,
While nature unveils this beautiful face,
And a joy in this I cannot find,
For my eyes do a mere empty gaze.

You know I am here to make some penny,
Having daily trysts with loneliness,
And what’s money without you honey,
With me wallowing here in emptiness?

The pressing needs of life drove me here,
And so did dire situations keep you there.
You will agree on all these, I am sure
Else, to separate us who would dare?

At a station often looking yonder,
Dreaming that you would by some train arrive,
These parallel tracks make me ponder,
Whether our life would be one separated drive.

Darling will not that day come?
When destiny will bring us again together,
And also bless us with money handsome,
To meet our pressing needs forever.

P.S: I wrote this poem while I was at onsite, seperated from family. This snap came along with a lot of other snaps from my friend Anirban Chanda, during his visit to Japan. But it was this snap in which I found, that there was so much that I could relate to, from my perspective and also from the body language of my friend as seen there.

FRIENDSHIP'S TRUE FRIEND

In this busy world of ours,
Filled with mortals of different kind,
Those with a big and benevolent heart,
It is but difficult to find.

Even in trying and testing times,
When dire periods never seem to end,
They still give their time and their warmth,
To every near and dear friend.

As the endurance of these mortals,
Get tested to limits, when friendships strain,
They still take those subtle steps,
To ensure that relationships never drain.

Every friendship needs such a friend,
Who leaves his self and goes beyond,
To bind and sustain a relationship,
That consummates into an eternal bond.

LAND AHOY!! LAND AHOY!!

Land ahoy!!! Land ahoy!!!
My ship of life is heading for shore,
And as my dampened spirits rise in joy,
Gales of struggle I see no more.

The ship needed the lion-heart in me to steer,
Through obstacles that gushed in like a flood,
Transcending waves of barriers sans fear,
For through my veins run soldiers’ blood.

Never do I hesitate, never do I tarry,
To set off across the seas for barter in faraway lands,
For my dear ones need the returns that I carry,
Back home with my toiled hands.

I look up to the Almighty for courage,
When obstacles loom and opportunities are rare,
As my dear ones long for my return from the voyage,
For whom, I am the only soul to care.
