AWAKE AND ACT, FOR THE EARTH LONGS FOR US

When I woke up one day, I felt that it was like just any another day. The sun was up as usual, and I was into my usual chores. But I felt a difference, that nature was talking to me, through whatever I saw, heard and felt, in the small world that I lived in.

May be it was because that day was my birthday, and it was the feeling that I had already been in this earth for years now that was running through my mind. It happened to me sometimes when I got into long periods of quite thinking, but it certainly happened on birthdays because that's when I felt that I have taken one step closer to leaving this earth.

I think many of us share this feeling sometime in our life. And what ran through me, was this train of thoughts of what I enjoyed in this world everyday and what I have done for it either in big or small measure, while living my life each day.

Years back when I was born, I was the precious jewel to my parents, but wasn’t I a child of Mother Earth too, longing to see a worthy human being made of me? I went through this life, in this form till what I am today, only once, and I enjoyed the benefits of the toil that several people have put in the past. May be most of the people in this earth are like me, working for food and comforts for our families, and may be being a little more responsible too, by moulding our children very well.

But again we never let our children dream, on how great inventions could be made. And so most of them succumb into the relentless rat race, that our society encourages, breeding pseudo professionals. But if this was the path that everyone took, then this earth may have never seen, a plane fly or a robot replace human work. They may have never seen big companies come up giving employment to millions. We may have neither used a telephone, nor read e-mails sent just seconds back. We would never have relished the fathomless benefits of the computer. A few mortals have gone beyond their normal call of duty, breaking their otherwise complacent boundaries, in search of true rewarding excellence, giving us all the comforts we enjoy. I had the same feeling a few weeks back when I watched the videos of Pranav Mistry's "Sixth Sense". How many of us are gifted to leave this earth with the satisfaction that these heroes will experience?

So it just occurred to me that day, that I should
do something much beyond what I kept doing everyday, so that this Earth will enjoy it’s resulting benefits. May be it was nature’s way of reminding me, that I need to give something in return, for all the hardship and toil a few mortals have put in, giving me a better life today.
